YouTube Passes MySpace in Popularity
YouTube has taken the top spot in popularity among Web 2.0 websites according to Alexa's latest numbers. The site is taking up 3.9% of worldwide internet visits, compared with 3.35% for MySpace, the #2 site. According to Nielsen/NetRatings, YouTube's user base increased by 297% from January through June.
Along with the success of the site comes an increasing price tag, some estimating upwards of $1 billion being the market value of YouTube. "YouTube has a far more universal appeal, being pure entertainment with a global appeal," said Dan Calladine, the research director at digital agency network Isobar. "MySpace's levels have been moving within the same range since April, but YouTube seems to be climbing more steeply than ever." The average visitor spends 28 minutes on YouTube, with men 20% more likely to visit the site than women. youtube
